Ric and Judy Hammond serve in Forbestown, a rural community in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California. At an elevation of 2,400 feet, each of the four seasons brings its own unique beauty to the surrounding area.
Being in a rural area developed several decades ago, the community includes a wide spectrum of people with varying economic and religious backgrounds. There is a need to introduce Jesus to Forbestown and the surrounding communities, providing love and encouraging growth in a positive relationship with the Lord.
After seeing the need in their community, the Hammonds began serving the area through the ministry of Mt. Hope Bible Camp. Established in 1952, the camp strives to provide a distraction-free environment that allows every guest to experience God. To do so, the camp offers Christ-like service, hospitality, and love to each and every visitor to Mt. Hope. Ric has been a member of the Mt. Hope Board of Directors for over eight years, and became camp director in October 2013.
“Over the years, I have seen the vital importance a week or even a couple of days at camp can play in the lives of people of all ages,” Ric writes.
Ric and Judy also love working with staff and volunteers to provide opportunities for them to use their God-given gifts and talents to serve in the camp environment. The Hammonds mentor and disciple them in Christian growth, and prepare and equip them for future service in the world in which they live.
The Hammonds have served as InFaith field staff since 2006.
Ric and Judy married in August 1973. They have five children, all of whom are married, and ten grandchildren.
Ric graduated with a BA from California State University, Long Beach and a biblical studies degree from Calvary Chapel Bible College. He worked with Youth for Christ in Erie, Pennsylvania, and was the assistant pastor at Wayne Park Baptist Church at the same time. For a time, Ric also pastored at Penn Valley Community Church and Smartsville Community Church.
The Hammonds were introduced to the mission by InFaith missionaries Lee and Pam Beldon, and felt that they shared the mission’s story and love to serve in rural areas across the United States. In 2013, Ric and Judy sensed the call to camp ministry, and have since served at Mt. Hope Bible Camp in California.
