Luis and Elsie Centeno serve in north Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Those living in the inner city and in the surrounding communities are often low income and poverty stricken households. Inner-city Philadelphia is a cross-cultural melting pot.
As with many large urban areas, many residents are in desperate situations. Many suffer from addictions, abuse, unemployment, homelessness, and lack of education. These conditions can lead to depression and hopelessness. The need for the love and hope presented in the gospel message is vital.
After seeing the need in their community, the Centenos took an active role in neighborhood evangelism through a number of ministries in north Philadelphia. Their goal is to advance the gospel through hands-on evangelism and equip future ministry leaders through training to reach out to various communities that need a spiritual awakening.
Some of the Centenos’ ministries include food distribution, suicide prevention education, prayer walks, counseling, clothing and furniture distribution, Thanksgiving food distribution, Christmas toy ministry, and discipleship of ministry leaders. Luis and Elsie have faithfully served their community in Philadelphia for more than forty years.
The Centenos have served as InFaith field staff since 1981.
Luis and Elsie came to InFaith through the encouragement of Doug and Charlene Rogers, InFaith missionaries who had served with the Centenos through Teen Haven, a ministry geared toward inner-city youth. They loved the fact that InFaith would allow them to do ministry in whatever God was leading them, and joined the mission in 1981.
With many years of ministry experience in the Philadelphia area, Luis and Elsie are passionate about evangelism and reaching the lost for Jesus Christ. They have seven biological and three adopted children.
