Jennifer Haak serves the tri-county area of Chester, Lancaster, and Berks Counties in southeastern Pennsylvania and lives near where those borders meet. The area spreads across rural farmlands punctuated with small towns and cities and is also home to thousands of Amish and Mennonites.
Pockets of poverty plague the communities, and they have experienced increased rates of homelessness and drug abuse. Young people have also been impacted by the spikes in suicide and depression in the nearby high schools, causing great concern in the area. In addition to these difficulties, even young believers are leaving the church at an alarming rate--up to 65% after age eighteen. Their reasons for leaving indicate a deep need for “more.”
However, during the 1950s and 1970s this area was the site of great revivals with thousands of people in attendance across the farm fields. Hope still burns that these communities will be restored to fullness of life once again but with even greater purpose!
A need exists for young people and families to experience and truly know the hope and love of Jesus and to walk in their Spirit-empowered purposes, identities, and gifts. Through this, people will witness city and rural transformation. Jennifer believes this transformation will begin with the young people in her area and will ignite a change there and beyond.
Empowering the next generation is at the heart of Jennifer’s ministry. In November of 2020 she was led out of public education and led to the neighborhoods and communities where she was already planted to meet the needs of families and youth in a variety of ways. She believes that every effective ministry is birthed out of a place of prayer and worship, so she leads periodic prayer walks around schools, courthouses, and parks as well as See You at the Pole events. Jennifer and her children participate in and lead prayer burns and worship nights, and she will be leading a family/children’s prayer and worship set with a local house of prayer. She also teaches at discipleship and equipping schools for youth and families hosted by different local ministries, and she’s launched missional outreach programs in nearby schools and ministries to creatively engage children and teens with the gospel.
Jennifer’s ministry centers on the model of both evangelism and discipleship. Jennifer advises and directs student-led Bible studies in public schools and also leads a discipleship group for ex-Amish young adults. She teaches equipping and discipleship sessions in partnership with several local ministries and leads prayer burns and walks in her local community.
Through her partnership with InFaith, her ministry will expand to include organizing and teaching empowerment discipleship schools for children, teens, and families with topics including: the Father’s love, identity, prophecy, spiritual gifts, effective prayer, and more. She seeks to create space for them to encounter the heart of God, ground themselves in truth, and receive practical training for spiritual empowerment and discipleship. The schools will include missional outreach to have the communities experience God’s love through practical help and prayer. Jennifer understands that children and teens do not receive a junior Holy Spirit, and she desires to see them walking powerfully in the Spirit to make a kingdom impact. She partners and equips families in the pursuit of reaching more children. Another expansion includes starting a dance program in the tri-county area to creatively combine both prayer and encountering God through dance. A second dance program is being launched with a very different purpose--as a means of reaching girls with the gospel. She desires to rotate outreach programs with different focuses (sports, dance etc.) as a means of connecting the next generation with the gospel. In all of her ministries, she builds community partnerships.
“We follow the lead of the Spirit in discerning which programs to launch in order to align with the current move of God and how He wants to encounter people,” Jennifer explains.
Jennifer has been an approved candidate with InFaith since May of 2021.
Jennifer has been a teacher working with teenagers for eighteen years prior to coming to InFaith and has been involved in various ministries over the years including children’s ministry, urban outreach, single-mom’s ministry, and church planting. She went to college in Wisconsin and Florida where she earned degrees in English and Biblical Studies but returned home to Pennsylvania where she later finished a master’s degree in secondary education. Her local ministry is close to her childhood home where she is now raising and discipling her own three children and watching them step into their callings. Moving back to the community, she and her family began to discover God’s heart for the next generation in that area and are passionately pursuing the call to reach them.
