Cross-Cultural Urban Ministry

Grace Heath serves in Glenwood, which is an under-resourced neighborhood located in Greensboro, North Carolina. She first became involved in ministry at Glenwood through tutoring at a school in the neighborhood. From there, she did a summer internship program in Glenwood in 2019. After that internship, Grace felt a deep call to urban ministry and to Glenwood in particular. She became an intern with InFaith during the summer of 2020 and has been involved in community efforts ever since.

Local Reach

Graces local an urban neighborhood in Greensboro, NC. Glenwood is an under-resourced neighborhood that is located right outside of downtown Greensboro. The neighborhood is extremely ethnically and culturally diverse, with over 20 languages spoken throughout nearly 2,000 households. Over forty percent of Glenwood residents live at or below the poverty line and Glenwood is located in one of the 24 food deserts in Guilford County.

While many Glenwood residents face various challenges, the neighborhood is full of beautiful diversity, talent, and a genuine desire to help one another.

Grace sees a variety of needs in her local community. On a physical level, there are many residents who are seeking basic needs to be met such as gaining access to food and shelter. Beyond physical needs, there is a deep need for Glenwood residents to feel heard and loved and know that they were created well and with great purpose.

Grace’s ministry is resident-centered and listens intently to the needs of the community. Grace reaches those at Glenwood Together, a community center, that is a space for residents to make a friend and feel loved and heard. Her ministry programming for children and families provides access to activities and learning that our neighbors might not have access to otherwise. The Glenwood Urban Farm also helps to meet a need for access to free fresh produce.

Throughout her time in the neighborhood, the biggest need that Grace recognized is for residents to have someone to talk to and someone who will listen to their story. It is her desire to share with each person, so they know they are loved by God and possess dignity and worth.

Grace became an approved candidate with InFaith in 2022.

Grace grew up in Wilson, North Carolina, and moved to Greensboro in 2016 to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She studied science at UNCG and graduated in 2020 with a BS in Biology.
