Summary

We are looking for a refugee ministry director to serve with the growing, multi-ethnic Snyder Avenue Congregational Church (SACC) in a diverse neighborhood of South Philadelphia. This is an opportunity to join SACC’s disciple-making outreach to the many families and individuals who are re-settling in America as refugees. The church currently serves Congolese, Nepali, Cambodian, Burmese (Myanmar), and Central American refugee communities. This candidate will direct existing outreach and develop new ministry that meets the needs of our ever-changing refugee population. This position reports directly to the pastor, who is also an InFaith missionary. The candidate should be experienced in leading programs and supervising volunteers, with a passion to develop disciples of Jesus. Additional and ongoing training will be required. While this position requires raising nearly full support, some financial assistance is provided.

  • Work with SACC staff, members, and volunteers to assess, strategize, and implement existing and new ministry activities for the refugee populations that the church serves
  • Assist refugees as they adjust to life in the United States
  • Teach English classes (ESL)
  • Work with pastor to disciple refugee children as well as their families
  • Live in the neighborhood near the church and Mifflin Square Park, if possible
  • Option of full- or part-time hours
  • Maintains a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness
  • A love and desire to work with refugee children/youth and their families
  • Works well with people and in a team environment
  • Proficient in scripture
  • Holds (or amenable to) a Reformed perspective of Scripture consistent with SACC's doctrinal statement
  • Bi-lingual if possible (Spanish, Swahili, French, Nepali, Lao, Khmer, Burmese, etc.)
  • Ability to raise support

Education and experience

1-2 years children/youth ministry experience or general social work experience, required. Bachelor's degree and one year of college-level Biblical studies preferred.
